Medical care is an ongoing challenge and burden for much of our country and city. The cost, complexities and burdens related to finding simple medical attention when in need causes many to not find care or seek it in the wrong places. Currently 168,000 people in Mecklenburg County are uninsured. That is 1 in 6 people of the greater Charlotte area who will struggle to find, receive and follow proper medical care. Families that are uninsured commonly use the emergency room for their basic medical needs will be able to receive care. This creates a secondary challenge and burden on hospitals, so this clinic will also be of great value to the local hospital systems. The Smith Family Wellness Clinic will be a solution to a significant need in our city. Our proposal is to be a free medical clinic. This means that people who are currently uninsured will have access to free and/or low payment care.
